The Air Jordan 6 “Carmine”, In It’s Original Form, Returns After Thirty Years_Fashion at Your Feet
In a typical year, the stage would be set for the annual NBA All-Star Weekend festivities and the roster of footwear releases that come during. But 2020/2021 was hardly typical as the COVID-19 outbreak has caused a number of sporting events to be put on hold or effectively cancelled. The 2021 All-Star Weekend is sadly part of the latter as the exhibition game originally intended to take place in Indianapolis was nixed, although there’s a shot that some sort of celebratory programming is scheduled for the second week of March. Still, Jordan Brand is moving forward with one of its most significant Air Jordan footwear releases of the calendar year – the Air Jordan 6 “Carmine”.
Originally releasing in 1991 and worn by Michael Jordan during the first half of the ’91-’92 season, the Carmine 6s introduced the most bold and daring color-blocking on an Air Jordan to date, creating a highly visible contrast with the alternate red and white on the upper. Since the Air Jordan 1, nearly all of Air Jordans stuck to an all-white or all-black composition to comply with league regulations. Over the years, the Carmine Jordan 6 grew in its status and was near the top of retro wishlists for years, finally returning in 2008 as part of the memorable year-long Collezione initiative. The first and only standalone retro release arrived in 2014, but without the key “Nike Air” detail on the heel that is proudly featured in the 2021 release.
